Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s stamp on Glasgow’s architecture jumps out at you on many a street. However, The Willow Tea Rooms gives you the opportunity to experience Mackintosh’s design and creativity up close and personal. The tea rooms on Sauchiehall Street survive as the only location where Mackintosh had complete control over every aspect of design; exterior and interior, furniture, cutlery, tea sets, even the waitress’ uniforms. This is a great place to stop for a traditional afternoon tea – with three-tiered cake stands brimming with sandwiches, cakes and sweet treats, including the famous Willow Meringues. There is also a location on Buchanan Street, right in the core of the Style Mile, which offers superb respite from shopping up a storm.
